Colwyn County Borough Council is the most recent beneficiary of a complete changing room facility from Link 51incorporating keyless locking solutions.
Lockers are provided in wet and dry changing areas for users of all the facilities at the Colwyn Leisure Centre including a six lane, 25 metre swimming/leisure pool and fitness suite incorporating modern fitness equipment.
Situated at Eirias Park, Colwyn Leisure Centre is the premier public sporting centre in the region. A robust locker solution was required to cater for the high levels of user traffic while ease of use for both locker users and site managers as well as a welcoming appearance were also high priorities for the commissioning council.
The Link 51solution is based on provision of corrosion resistant Aquarius Wet Area Lockers with moisture-resistant solid grade laminate doors throughout the changing facilities. Supplied in two and three door configurations, all compartments are fitted with a transponder operated locks. The lock is securely closed and opened by a wrist band which is issued from reception for a deposit of £1. This simple arrangement removes the potential problems of key loss from the leisure centre as the wrist bands are returned after use in a collector unit which automatically returns the £1 deposit. Wrist bands are then collected and returned to reception for use the following day.
The Aquarius Wet Area Lockers provided are located in wet and dry area changing facilities. All lockers are placed on either stands or combined stand seating units to raise the lockers off the floor. This has the dual benefit of providing integral seating and allowing for cleaning underneath the lockers, including removal of surface water, to maintain a safe and tidy facility.
Installation of the lockers was also provided by Link 51. The installation work was phased to meet site build requirements and includes infill panels and tops at corners to match exactly the dimensions of the existing changing areas. This provides a fully installed facility which is visually pleasing and removes gaps and spaces where rubbish can accumulate. All locker runs are also provided with end panels to match the colour scheme in the changing rooms. Made from the same solid grade laminate material as the doors, they provide a robust, matching finish. The whole installation is completed by the provision of hook boards in a complementary material.
The gym facility in the leisure centre also features Personal Storage Lockers provided by Link 51. These small compartment lockers allow personal possessions to be locked away while visitors to the centre use the gym equipment. The lockers are located in the gym itself and are locked and opened by a digital combination lock operated by a four digit PIN selected by the user. This PIN number clears after the locker is opened, leaving the compartment free for the next user.
“The Colwyn Leisure Centre is an excellent example of a fully installed locker facility in the leisure sector,” comments Joeri Decae, Sales Director at Link 51. “The combination of Aquarius Wet Area Lockers and transponder locks ensures the facility will continue to provide a comfortable, bright and secure changing facility for all users.”
