In providing changing facilities for both production and warehouse employees, Stadco’s personal locker system, based on two per employee, was no longer fit for purpose. A decision was made to improve on-site changing facilities by providing new personal lockers and a CAPEX was raised. Three locker suppliers were invited to tender. With cost and product quality being primary factors, Stadco favoured the solution submitted by Link 51 Lockers and Cupboards, the UK’s largest manufacturer of lockers, locker accessories and cupboards.
The layout design and scope of the project was finalised in time for Stadco’s summer shutdown during the last week in July and the first week in August 2013, when the installation was scheduled to take place.
Lockers were to be installed in three key areas: the main production area, a secondary production area and the warehouse room. The design and layout of the locker areas had to provide a system for the issue of clean workwear and the collection of dirty laundry at the end of the working day.
Based on their modular standard mild steel locker range, Link 51 Lockers installed 1800mm high single door lockers, on top of 372mm high Sixto lockers in two widths: 300mm and 450mm wide. The standard 300mm wide lockers feature a shelf and hanging rail. The 450mm wide ‘clean and dirty’ lockers are designed with a central divider, allowing hanging garments to be kept separate. This makes them ideal for the forklift drivers who needed the extra capacity to store both wet and dry workwear. Doors are louvred top and bottom for added ventilation.
Locker users have access to both the upper and bottom lockers while the laundry store has access to the bottom locker only. This allows for the controlled issue of clean workwear.
In the main locker room four garment collection lockers were also provided so that employee’s can ‘drop’ their dirty laundry via the slot at the top of the locker door. The dirty laundry drops in large plastic bags within the lockers, which are removed and sent to be laundered.
With all the items clearly labelled with either the employee’s name or locker number, the laundered garments are returned to site and are placed in each employees bottom locker by the storeman.
Across the 3 locker areas Link 51 Lockers supplied and installed:
- 183 single door lockers (300mm wide) over Sixto lockers
- 93 ‘clean and dirty’ lockers (450mm wide) over Sixto lockers
- 5 garment collectors
- Bench seating with Utile slat seating
All lockers, finished in blue, feature sloping tops to discourage users from leaving items on top of lockers helping to keep locker areas tidy and more hygienic.
Designed and manufactured to be strong, durable and secure, all Link 51 Lockers products are also supplied with a unique BioCote® protective finish as standard. BioCote® is a silver-based anti-microbial technology that reduces the risks associated with bacterial cross-contamination and helps keep heavy traffic areas hygienic.
By using Link 51 Lockers, Stadco benefited from:
- UK-based in-house manufacturing capability
- Fully managed market-leading storage solutions
- Extensive project management expertise
