Reduce the risk of bacterial cross contamination with Link 51

There is no getting away from bacteria and our world would not exist if it were not for them. But while many of these micro-organisms are necessary for health – the so-called “healthy bacteria” that live in the gut – there are those that can harm us. MRSA, E.coli, Listeria, Salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria can all cause infection, serious illness and can be potentially fatal.

As the UK’s leading manufacturer of lockers, for a range of high-risk sectors, including healthcare, education, food and drink manufacturing, and emergency services, we have long been aware of the dangers associated with cross-contamination in such environments.

Joeri Decae, Sales Director at Link 51said: “Hygiene management in these sectors is fundamental, which is why we ensure all of our steel products are protected with BioCote®. In fact, we are the only locker manufacturer to use BioCote® as standard on all of our painted steel storage products.”

BioCote® is a silver-based anti-microbial technology that helps to reduce the risks associated with bacterial cross-contamination from surfaces with high contact frequency such as lockers. It is the most extensively tested silver-based anti-microbial technology, which has been proven to work in the hospital environment during peer-reviewed trials to help reduce levels of bacteria by an average of 95%.

The most recent tests carried out by BioCote® have also served to confirm why Link 51is committed to using this technology. Microbiologists at the company discovered that the keypads on cashpoints (ATMs) which are touched by thousands of shoppers every day are as dirty and carry the same germs as the seats in public toilets.

Media reports detailed how bacteria were analysed from the swabs taken from ATMs and nearby public toilets in Britain. They found that the samples from both locations contained pseudomonads, bacillus and bacteria known to cause sickness and diarrhoea. Richard Hastings, from BioCote Ltd, said studies are valuable to demonstrate what is commonly suspected.

Joeri added: “The results from the ATM test were confirmation, if ever any were needed, about why we are so committed to using BioCote® in all our steel lockers.”
